سعد، عن أحمد بن محمّد بن عيسى، عن الحسين بن سعيد، عن حمّاد بن عيسى، عن إبراهيم بن عمر اليماني، عن أبي الطفيل: عن أبي جعفر عليه السلام، (عن آبائه) قال: قال رسول الله صلّى الله عليه وآله، لأمير المؤمنين عليه السلام: اكتب ما اُملي عليك، فقال: يا نبيّ الله، وتخاف عليّ النسيان؟ فقال: لست أخاف عليك النسيان، وقد دعوت الله لك أن يحفظك ولا ينسيك، ولكن اكتب لشركائك، قال: قلت: ومن شركائي يا نبيّ الله؟! قال: الأئمة من ولدك، بهم تسقى أمّتي الغيث، وبهم يستجاب دعاؤهم، وبهم يصرف الله عنهم البلاء، وبهم ينزّل الرحمة من السماء. وهذا أولهم، وأومى إلى الحسن، ثم أومى إلى الحسين عليهما السلام، ثم قال: الأئمة من ولده عليهم السلام.
Saʿd, from Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā, from al-Ḥusayn b. Saʿīd, from Ḥammād b. ʿĪsā, from Ibrāhīm b. ʿUmar al-Yamānī, from Abī’l-Ṭufayl, from Abī Jaʿfar (as) (from his forefathers), who said: “The Apostle of Allāh (sawa) said to Amīr al-Muʾminīn (as): “Write down what I dictate to you.” He responded: “O’ Prophet of Allāh! Do you fear forgetfulness on my part?” The Prophet said: “I do not fear forgetfulness on your part, but I have supplicated to Allāh that He preserve you and ensure that you do not forget. Rather, I instruct you to write for the sake of your associates.” ʿAlī (saa) stated: “I said: “Who are my associates, o’ Prophet of Allāh?!” The Prophet (sawa) responded: “The Imams from among your posterity, through whom my community is blessed with rain, through whom their supplications are answered, through whom Allāh turns afflictions away from them, and through whom He sends mercy down from the sky. This is the first of them”—and he gestured towards al-Ḥasan, and then he gestured towards al-Ḥusayn (as-d)—then he said: “The (remaining) Imams are from among his descendants (as-p).”
