Al-Kāfi

1ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الْجِنَازَةِ أَ يُصَلَّى عَلَيْهَا عَلَى غَيْرِ وُضُوءٍ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ إِنَّمَا هُوَ تَكْبِيرٌ وَتَحْمِيدٌ وَتَسْبِيحٌ وَتَهْلِيلٌ كَمَا تُكَبِّرُ وَتُسَبِّحُ فِي بَيْتِكَ عَلَى غَيْرِ وُضُوءٍ.

1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Faddal from Yunus ibn Ya‘qub who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), about performing Salah (prayer) for a deceased without Wudu’. He (the Imam) said, ’It is permissible; it is only Takbir (Allah is great beyond description), Tahlil (no one deserves worship except Allah), Tahmid (it is Allah only who deserves all praise), Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects) and Takbir (Allah is great beyond description).

2ـ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ قَالَ سُئِلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الله (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) عَنِ الرَّجُلِ تُدْرِكُهُ الْجِنَازَةُ وَهُوَ عَلَى غَيْرِ وُضُوءٍ فَإِنْ ذَهَبَ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَاتَتْهُ الصَّلاَةُ عَلَيْهَا قَالَ يَتَيَمَّمُ وَيُصَلِّي.

2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ’Abd Allah (a.s.), was asked about a man who attends Salah (prayer) for a deceased without Wudu’ and if he goes for Wudu’ he misses Salah (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘He can take Tayammum, then perform Salah (prayer).”’

3ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ وَأَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ جَمِيعاً عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأَبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ الْسَّلام) الْجِنَازَةُ يُخْرَجُ بِهَا وَلَسْتُ عَلَى وُضُوءٍ فَإِنْ ذَهَبْتُ أَتَوَضَّأُ فَاتَتْنِي الصَّلاَةُ أَ لِيَ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهَا وَأَنَا عَلَى غَيْرِ وُضُوءٍ قَالَ تَكُونُ عَلَى طُهْرٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ.

3. Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan and abu Ali al-Ash’ariy from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar all from Safwan ibn Yahya from ‘Abd al-FIamid ibn Sa‘id who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan (a.s.), about Salah (prayer) for a deceased when I do not have Wudu’, and because of going for Wudu’ I miss Salah (prayer) if I can perform it without Wudu’. He (the Imam) your being with Wudu’ is more beloved to me.’”

4ـ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنِ الْعَلاَءِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا (عَلَيْهِما الْسَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ تَفْجَأُهُ الْجِنَازَةُ وَهُوَ عَلَى غَيْرِ طُهْرٍ قَالَ فَلْيُكَبِّرْ مَعَهُمْ.

4. Abu Ali al-Ash’ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan from al-‘Ala’ from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked one of the two Imam, (abu Ja’far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about a man who suddenly comes across Salah (prayer) for a deceased without Wudu’. He (the Imam) said, ‘He can say Takbir (Allah is great beyond description) along with them.’”

5ـ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَخِيهِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ زُرْعَةَ عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مَرَّتْ بِهِ جَنَازَةٌ وَهُوَ عَلَى غَيْرِ وُضُوءٍ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ قَالَ يَضْرِبُ بِيَدَيْهِ عَلَى حَائِطِ اللَّبِنِ فَيَتَيَمَّمُ بِهِ.

5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from his brother al-FIassan from Zur’ah from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam) (a.s.), about a man who comes across a deceased without Wudu’ and about what he should do. He (the Imam) said, ‘He can thump his palms against the wall of bricks to have Tayammum.’”
