On the Occultation of Ibrahim
Kamāl al-Dīn wa Tamām al-Niʿma|Volume 1|Book 2|Chapter 4

My father and Muhammad b. al-Hasan – may Allah be pleased with them – narrated to us, saying: Sa'd b. Abd Allah narrated to us from Ya'qub b. Yazid, from Muhammad b. Abi Umayr, from Hisham b. Salim, from Abu Basir, from Abu Abd Allah عليه السلام, who said: The father of Ibrahim عليه السلام was an astrologer for Nimrud b. Kan'an, and Nimrud would not act without his counsel. One night, he looked into the stars and in the morning said, "I saw something astonishing in my vision." Nimrud said to him, "And what is it?" He replied, "I saw that a child will be born in our land, and our destruction will be at his hands. He will soon be conceived." Nimrud was astonished and asked, "Have any women conceived him yet?" He replied, "No." Part of his knowledge was that the child would be burned in fire, but he had not been given the knowledge that Allah would save him. So, women were secluded from men, and no woman was left outside the city so that no man could reach them.
The father of Ibrahim slept with his wife, and she conceived him. He assumed this child was the one meant. He then sent for women skilled in examining pregnant women – such that nothing in the womb would be hidden from them – and they examined the mother of Ibrahim. Allah caused what was in her womb to adhere to her back, so they said, "We see nothing in her belly." When she gave birth to Ibrahim, his father wanted to take him to Nimrud. His wife said to him, "Do not take your son to Nimrud, for he will kill him. Let me take him to one of the caves and leave him there until his appointed time comes – so you won’t be the one to kill your son." He said, "Then go." She took him to a cave, nursed him, placed a stone at the cave’s entrance, and left.
Allah, the Mighty and Exalted, placed his sustenance in his thumb, so he would suck on it and drink milk. He would grow in one day the way others grew in a week, and grow in a week as others did in a month, and in a month as others did in a year. He remained there as long as Allah willed. Then his mother said to his father, "If you permit me to go and see the boy, I will do so." He said, "Go." She went to the cave and found Ibrahim عليه السلام, his eyes shining like two lamps. She held him to her chest, nursed him, and left. His father asked her about the boy, and she said, "I buried him in the earth."
She kept feigning errands and would go to visit Ibrahim عليه السلام, embrace him, nurse him, and return. When he began to move, his mother came to him as she used to, and did what she always did. When she tried to leave, he grabbed her garment and said, "What’s wrong with you?" She said, "I will take you with me after I ask your father."
