The Effect of Conjugal Relation on Mahr

A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu Najran from al-‘Ala’ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “About the case of a man who marries a woman and goes to bed with her, then she asks for payment of mahr (dower), abu Ja’far عليه السلام, has said, ‘His going to bed with her destroys immediate payability of mahr (dower) which was for immediate payment.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from ‘Ubayd ibn Zurarah who has said the following: “About the case of a man who goes to bed with a woman, then she asks for payment of mahr (dower), abu ‘Abd Allah عليه السلام, has said, ‘When he goes to bed with her the condition of immediate payment is destroyed.’”
