Squash

2. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith, the following is narrated: “Abu ‘Abd Allah عليه السلام, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, liked calabash, gourd in the cooking pot. It is squash.”’

3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Tsa from ibn Faddal from ‘Abd Allah ibn Maymun al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah عليه السلام, has said that the Messenger of Allah liked gourd, calabash, and picked it up from the dish.’”

4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Shamiy from al-Husayn ibn Hanzalah who has said the following: “One of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘Gourd, squash increases al-Damagh (abilities of the brain).”’

5. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Ali ibn Hassan from Musa ibn Bakr who has said the following: “I once heard abu al-Hassan عليه السلام, saying, ‘Squash, gourd increases power of reason.’”

6. Al-Husayn from Muhammad has narrated from al-Sayyariy in a marfu‘ manner who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, liked gourd and would order his wives to increase gourd when they cooked a dish. It is squash.”

7. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, Musa عليه السلام, has stated this Hadith. ‘Of the things about which the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, recommended Ali عليه السلام, was his saying, ‘O Ali, you must eat gourd, squash; it increases, al-Damagh, the abilities of the brain and the power of reason.’”
