Undesirability of Applying oil all the Time

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Sinan from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah عليه السلام, ‘I associate with careful people and content myself with a small amount of oil which I use little by little every day.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘I do not like it for you.’ I then asked, ‘Should I then use one day and should not use the next day?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘I do not like that for you.’ I then asked, ‘Can I use once after every two days?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You can apply oil every Friday, once or twice a week.”’

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Ishaq ibn Jarir who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah عليه السلام, about how many times should I apply oil?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Apply oil only once a year.’ I then said, ‘People will consider me as living in destitution.’ I continued asking if I can apply oil once a month or so but he (the Imam) did not increase.’”
