The Oil of Gillyflower

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father and ibn Faddal from al-Hassan ibn al-Jahm who has said the following: “I once saw abu al-Hassan عليه السلام, apply gillyflower oil and said to me to apply it.’ I then said, ‘Why do you not apply viola oil when there is narration about it from abu ‘Abd Allah عليه السلام :?’ He, abu al-Hassan عليه السلام, said, ‘I do not like its smell.’ He (the narrator) has said that I said, ‘I also do not like its smell, but I do not like to say it because of the narration from abu ‘Abd Allah عليه السلام, about it.’ He, abu al-Hassan عليه السلام, said, ‘It is not harmful.’”
