Restlessness of the Earth and the gesture of Imam Ali AS
1 hadithعَنْهُ عَنْ صَالِحٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عليه السلام) فَاضْطَرَبَتِ الْأَرْضُ فَوَحَاهَا بِيَدِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهَا اسْكُنِي مَا لَكِ ثُمَّ الْتَفَتَ إِلَيْنَا وَ قَالَ أَمَا إِنَّهَا لَوْ كَانَتِ الَّتِي قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَأَجَابَتْنِي وَ لَكِنْ لَيْسَتْ بِتِلْكَ.
366. From him, from Salih, from Muhammad Bin Sinan, from Ibn Muskaan, from Abu Bakr Al-Hazramy, from Tameem Bin Haatim who said: We were with Amir-ul-Momineen عليه الصلاة والسلام, so the earth became restless (tremor). So he عليه الصلاة والسلام gestured with his عليه الصلاة والسلام hand, then said to it: ‘Calm down! What is the matter with you?’ Then he عليه الصلاة والسلام turned towards us and said: ‘But, had it been that (quake) which Allah عز وجل Mighty and Majestic has Said, it would have answered me عليه الصلاة والسلام, but it is not that one’.
