395. Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad and a number of our companions, from Sahl Biin Ziyad together from Ibn Mahboub, from Malik Bin Atiyya who said: I said to Abu Abdullah عليه الصلاة والسلام, ‘I am a man from Bajilat (tribe), and I am on the Religion of Allah عز وجل by having befriended you عليه الصلاة والسلام, and some who do not know me have asked me by saying to me, ‘Who are you?’, so I say to them, ‘I am a man from the Arabs’, then (I say), from Bajilat. So is this a sin for me where I do not say that I am a friend (Mawaly) of the Clan of Hashim عليه السلام?’ So he عليه الصلاة والسلام said: ‘No. Is not your heart and your desire determined upon that you are from our عليه الصلاة والسلام friends?’ So I said, ‘Yes, by Allah عز وجل!’ So he عليه الصلاة والسلام said: ‘It is not upon you to say, ‘I am from the Arabs’. But rather, you are from the Arabs with regards to the lineage, and the gifts, and the number, and the nobility. But you are, with regards to the Religion, and what you had made a Religion by what Allah عز وجل Mighty and Majestic Made from being obedient to us عليه الصلاة والسلام and taking to it from us عليه الصلاة والسلام. You are from us عليه الصلاة والسلام, and from our عليه الصلاة والسلام friends, and from us عليه الصلاة والسلام and to us عليه الصلاة والسلام’.
