"They pleaded with Allah for victory..."

482. Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Safwan Bin Yahya, from Is’haq Bin Ammar who said: ‘I asked Abu Abdullah عليه الصلاة والسلام about the Statement of Allah عز وجل Blessed and High: “[2:89] and before that they used to pray for victory against those who disbelieve, but when there came to them (Prophet) that which they did not recognize, they disbelieved in him”. He عليه الصلاة والسلام said: ‘A people who were in between (the era of) Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم and Isa عليه السلام, and they would inform the idol worshippers about the promised Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, and they were saying, ‘When the Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم comes out, he صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم would break your idols, and will do this with you, and that with you’. However, when the Rasool Allah صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم came out, they denied him صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم’.
