Aḥmad b. Idrīs, from ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā, from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm, from Aḥmad b. al-Faḍl, from Yūnus b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who narrated: “Abū’l-Ḥasan (al-Kāẓim (as)) died, and not one of his agents did not have abundant wealth. That was the reason for their cessation [1] and their wilful denial of his death. Ziyād al-Qandī had seventy thousand dinars, while ʿAlī b. Abī Ḥamza had thirty thousand. One of the late Imam’s agents was ʿUthmān b. ʿĪsā, who was in Egypt, and he had abundant wealth and six bondswomen.” Yūnus continued to narrate: “Abū’l-Ḥasan al-Riḍā (as) sent to him in regard to those bondswomen and the money, so he wrote back saying: “Your father is not dead.” Imam al-Riḍā (saa) replied to him: “Indeed, my father has died, we have divided the inheritance he left behind among ourselves, and the reports of his death have been verified,” and argued against him. ʿUthmān b. ʿĪsā wrote back to him: “If your father has not died, then none of that (wealth) belongs to you. If he has died, then he did not order me to hand over a thing to you. I have emancipated the bondswomen and married them.”
