أحمد بن إدريس، عن محمّد بن أحمد، عن العباس بن معروف، عن الحسن بن محبوب، عن حنّان بن سدير، قال: سألت أبا جعفر عليه السلام عن ابن الحنفيّة: هل كان إماما؟ً قال: لا، ولكنه كان مهدياً.
Aḥmad b. Idrīs, from Muḥammad b. Aḥmad, from al-ʿAbbās b. Maʿrūf, from al-Ḥasan b. Maḥbūb, from Ḥannān b. Sudayr, who narrated: “I asked Abā Jaʿfar عليه السلام about Ibn al-Ḥanafiyya: “Was he an Imam?,” so he replied: “No, but he was a guided one.”[1]
[1] Here the indefinite adjective mahdī means “rightly guided;” it is not the eschatological title “Mahdī.”
