The Reward for the Ziyārah of Ĥusain عليه السلام Is Equal to the Reward of Performing a Hajj

2. Muḥammad ibn ja’far narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Muḥammad ibn Sinān, who said: I heard Abal Ḥasan (Imam Riďā عليه السلام) say: Allāh will register the performance of a purified Hajj for those who go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام.

My father narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Ḥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Mughīrah, from ‘Abbās ibn ‘Āmir, from ‘Abdillāh ibn ‘Ubayd Al-Anbāri, who said: I said to Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq عليه السلام), “May I sacrifice myself for you! I do not have the means to go to Hajj every year.” Imam عليه السلام replied: If you ever wanted to go to Hajj but did not have the means (to do so), go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام, for verily it will be registered as a Hajj for you. And if you ever wanted to go for ‘Umrah but did not have the means (to do so), go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام, for verily it will be registered as an ‘Umrah for you.

Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan Al-Saffār, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from his father, from Ibn Abī ‘Umayr, from Hishām ibn Ḥakam, from ‘Abdil Karīm ibn Ḥassān, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq عليه السلام), “What does it mean when it is said that going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام is equal to performing a Hajj and an ‘Umrah?” Imam عليه السلام replied: Verily Hajj and ‘Umrah can only be performed here (in Makkah). However, if one decides to go to Hajj but does not have the means (to do so) and goes to Ḥusain عليه السلام instead, Allāh will register a Hajj for him. (Similarly) if someone decides to perform an ‘Umrah but does not have the means (to do so and goes to Ḥusain عليه السلام instead), an ‘Umrah will be registered for him.

Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan Al-Saffār, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Ḥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Faďďāl, from Ḥarīz, from Fuďayl ibn Yasār, who said: Imam عليه السلام said: Going to the Ziyārah of the grave of the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, or the graves of the Martyrs (of Uḥud), or the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام is equal to performing a Hajj with the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم. The above Ḥadīth has also been narrated to me through the following chain: Muḥammad Ja’far, from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Safwān ibn Yaḥyā, from Ḥarīz, from Fuďayl ibn Yasār, from Abī ‘Abdillāh عليه السلام.

6. Ḥasan ibn ‘Abdillāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā narrated to me from his father, from Ḥasan ibn Maḥbūb, from Jamīl ibn Sāliḥ, from Fuďayl ibn Yasār, who said: Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir عليه السلام) said: Going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام is equal to performing a purified Hajj with the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم.

7. Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār narrated to me from his father, from ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār, from Ḥasan ibn Sa’īd, from Safwān ibn Yaḥyā, from Ḥarīz, and from Ḥasan ibn Maḥbūb, from Jamīl ibn Sāliḥ, from Fuďayl ibn Yasār, who said: Abū Ja’far (Imam Bāqir عليه السلام) and Abū ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq عليه السلام) said: Going to the Ziyārah of the grave of the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, or the graves of the Martyrs (of Uḥud), or the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام is equal to performing a Hajj with the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم.

8. Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan Al-Saffār, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā ibn ‘Ubayd, from Abī Sa’īd Al-Qammāť, from Ibn Abī Ya’fūr, who said: I heard Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq عليه السلام) say: If one decides to go to Hajj but does not have the means to do so and goes to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام instead, and spends the Day of ‘Arafah next to his grave, his Ziyārah will suffice as having performed Hajj.

9. Muḥammad ibn Ja’far narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Muḥammad ibn Sinān, from Ibrāhīm ibn ‘Uqbah, who said: I wrote a letter to the Righteous Slave (Imam Kāżim عليه السلام) saying, “If our Master deems it appropriate to inform me, (I would like to know) about the best rewards for (going to) the Ziyārah of Ḥusain عليه السلام and also if this reward is equal to the reward of performing Hajj for those who have missed (the opportunity to go to) Hajj.” Imam عليه السلام wrote back, “It is equal to Hajj for those who have missed (the opportunity to go to) Hajj.”
