The Reward for the Ziyārah of Ĥusain عليه السلام Is Equal to the Reward of Performing an ‘Umrah

Muḥammad ibn Ja’far narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Ḥasan ibn ‘Ali ibn Abī ‘Uthmān, from Ismā’īl ibn ‘Abbād, from Ḥasan ibn ‘Ali, from Abī Sa’īd Al-Madā`ini, who said: I went to Abī ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq عليه السلام) and asked, “May I sacrifice myself for you! Should I go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام?” Imam عليه السلام replied: O Abā Sa’īd! Yes! Go to (the Ziyārah of) the grave of the son of the Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم, the most blessed of the blessed ones, the most purified of the purified ones, and the most pious of the pious ones; for if you go to his Ziyārah, twenty-two ‘Umrah will be registered for you.

3. Muḥammad ibn Ja’far narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Muḥammad ibn Sinān, who said: I heard Imam Riďā عليه السلام say: Going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام is equal to performing a purified and accepted ‘Umrah.

My father and Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan both narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Aḥmad and ‘Abdillāh sons of Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Mūsā ibn Qāsim, from Ḥasan ibn Jahm, who said: I asked Abal Ḥasan (Imam Riďā عليه السلام), “What do you say about (the reward for) going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام?” Imam عليه السلام replied, “What is your opinion about this (matter)?” I said, “Some people say that it is equal to performing one Hajj while others say it is equal to performing an ‘Umrah.” Imam عليه السلام said, “It is equal to performing an accepted ‘Umrah.”

Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥasan Al-Saffār, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from Muḥammad ibn ‘Ali, from Ibrāhīm ibn Yaḥyā Al-Qaťťān, from his father Abil Bilād, who said: I asked Abal Ḥasan (Imam Riďā عليه السلام) about (the reward for) going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام. Imam عليه السلام asked, “What is your opinion about this (matter)?” I replied, “We say that it is equal to performing a Hajj and an ‘Umrah.” Imam عليه السلام said, “It is equal to performing a purified ‘Umrah.”

6. ‘Ali ibn Ḥusain narrated to me from Sa’d ibn ‘Abdillāh, from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ‘Isā, from ‘Ali ibn Aḥmad ibn Ashyam, from Safwān ibn Yaḥyā, who said: I asked Imam Riďā عليه السلام, “What it the reward for going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام?” Imam عليه السلام said, “It is equal to performing an ‘Umrah.”

My father and Muḥammad ibn ‘Abdillāh both narrated to me from ‘Abdillāh ibn Ja’far Al-Ḥimyari, from Ibrāhīm ibn Mahziyār, from his brother ‘Ali ibn Mahziyār, from Muḥammad ibn Sinān, who said: I heard Abal Ḥasan (Imam Riďā عليه السلام) say: Going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام is equal to performing a purified and an accepted ‘Umrah.

8. Muḥammad ibn Ja’far narrated to me from Muḥammad ibn Ḥusain, from Safwān ibn Yaḥyā, who said: I asked Abal Ḥasan (Imam Riďā عليه السلام) about the reward for going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام. Imam عليه السلام said, “It is equal to performing an ‘Umrah.”

9. A group of our companions narrated to me from Aḥmad ibn Idrīs, and from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā Al-‘Aťťār, from ‘Amraki ibn ‘Ali, from some of his companions, from one of them (the infallible Imams عليه السلام), who said: Performing four ‘Umrah is equal to performing a Hajj, and going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام is equal to performing an ‘Umrah.

10. A group of our companions narrated to me from Aḥmad ibn Idrīs, and from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā Al-‘Aťťār, from ‘Amraki ibn Al-Būfaki, from someone who narrated to him, from Muḥammad ibn Fuďayl, from Abī Rabāb, who said: I asked Abā ‘Abdillāh (Imam Sādiq عليه السلام) about (the reward for) going to the Ziyārah of the grave of Ḥusain عليه السلام. Imam عليه السلام said, “It is equal to performing an ‘Umrah, and one is not permitted to stay away from it for longer than four years.”
