Al-Sakuni narrated from Abu Abdullah عليه السلام, who said: "The first thing to be taken care of from the wealth (of the deceased) is the shroud (for burial), then the debts, then the will, and then the inheritance."

Al-Hasan ibn Mahbub narrated from Ali ibn Riʾab from Zurarah, who said: I asked Imam عليه السلام about a man who died while owing a debt equal to the price of his shroud. Imam عليه السلام said: "What he left behind should be used for the price of his shroud unless some people choose to contribute and provide his shroud. In that case, his debt should be paid off from what he left behind."
