Chapter on the First Matters to Be Addressed From Estate of the Deceased
Al-Hasan ibn Mahbub narrated from Ali ibn Riʾab from Zurarah, who said: I asked Imam عليه السلام about a man who died while owing a debt equal to the price of his shroud. Imam عليه السلام said: "What he left behind should be used for the price of his shroud unless some people choose to contribute and provide his shroud. In that case, his debt should be paid off from what he left behind."
