’Umar belies Ali, ‘Alayhi al-Salam

325. Abaan, from Abdul Rahmaan Bin Abu Abdullah, from Abu Al-Abbas Al-Makky who said: I heard Abu Ja’far عليه الصلاة والسلام saying that: ‘Umar met Amir-ul-Momineen عليه الصلاة والسلام and said, ‘You عليه الصلاة والسلام are the one who recites this Verse: “[68:6] Which of you is afflicted with madness”, applying it to me and my companion (abu Bakr)’. He عليه الصلاة والسلام said: ‘Shall I عليه الصلاة والسلام not inform you of the Verse which Descended regarding the Clan of Umayya: “[47:22] But if you held command, you were sure to make mischief in the land and cut off the ties of kinship!”. So he said, ‘You عليه الصلاة والسلام are lying. The Clan of Umayya establish more ties of kinship than you عليه الصلاة والسلام do, but you عليه الصلاة والسلام are most insistent upon enmity to the Clan of Taym (Abu Bakr’s tribe) and Udayy (Umar’s tribe), and the Clan of Umayya’.
