A report about Mufaddal ibn 'Umar

561. Ali Bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Muhammad Bin Yahya, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Isa, from Al-Husayn Bin Saeed, together from Ibn Abi ‘Umayr, from Husayn Bin Ahmad Al-Munqary, from Yunus Bin Zabyaan who said: ‘I said to Abu Abdullah عليه الصلاة والسلام, Why do you عليه الصلاة والسلام not forbid these two men from (criticising) this man?’ So he عليه الصلاة والسلام said: ‘Who is this man, and who are these two men?’ I said, ‘Why do you عليه الصلاة والسلام not forbid Hujr Bin Zaida, and Aamir Bin Juza’at, from (criticising) Al-Mufazzal Bin Umar?’ So he عليه الصلاة والسلام said: ‘O Yunus! I عليه الصلاة والسلام had asked these two to refrain from it, but they did not do it. So I called the two of them over, and asked both of them, and wrote to both of them telling them what I عليه الصلاة والسلام needed from both of them, but they still did not restrain themselves from it. So, may Allah عز وجل not Forgive them both, for by Allah عز وجل, there are many honourable ones in his cordiality than these two regarding what they are impersonating from my عليه الصلاة والسلام cordiality. Where he has said, ‘Why does she think by the absence that I do not love her?’, then the two of them have not honoured me عليه الصلاة والسلام, but by Allah عز وجل, had they both loved me عليه الصلاة والسلام, they would have loved the one whom I عليه الصلاة والسلام love’.
