The compiler of this book, may Allah be pleased with him, said: This is more correct, and the first is nothing. With regards to his saying: «nor shinaq», shinq is what lies between two (pillars of) obligations, and that is what exceeds of camels from five to ten, and what exceeds the ten (and continuous) to fifteen. He says: «It shall not be taken anything of that.» Similarly, it refers to all shinq’s. Al-Akhtal said, whilst praising a man: An honourable man to whom the ropes of indemnity were pertained, When the hundreds enforced a burden upon him. As for his saying: «nor shighar», it is that a man, during the Jahiliya, would seek to another man the marriage with his daughter or sister, and that he would grant as a dowry for her that he also marries him to his own daughter or sister, and there would be no dowry except for that. This was then forbidden. With regards to his saying: «and the one who performs ijba’ has certainly performed usury», ijba’ is to sell tilth before it appears that it is fine.
