Al-Asma’i said: The root of ‘irq is a cloth knitted from palm leaves before a zabeel is made of it. It was called zabeel by common practice due to that. It is also called a ‘irqa. Likewise, everything that is aligned, like how birds are aligned in the sky, is a ‘irqa.
