Reward of abstinence from greater sins

1. My father رحمه الله said: it was narrated to me by Sa’d b. Abdillah from Musa b. Ja’far b. Wahab al-Baghdadi from al-Hassan b. Ali al-Washa from Ahmad b. Umar al-Halabi who said: The narrator asked Imam Ja’far Sadiq عليه السلام the meaning of the verse ‘If you shun the great sins which you are forbidden, We will do away with your small’. Imam عليه السلام replied, “One who keeps away from such sins due to which Allah throws one in Hell, Allah will forgive his sins and make him enter a good place (Paradise). There are seven greater sins, which condemn a person to Hell – killing an innocent, disobeying parents, taking interest, apostasy, accusing a virtuous woman of adultery, usurping the property of orphans and running away from Jihad.”
