Chapter on the Reasons Behind Hajj
Man Lā Yaḥḍuruh al-Faqīh|Volume 2|Book 3|Chapter 1
وَ سُمِّيَ اَلْبَيْتُ اَلْعَتِيقَ لِأَنَّهُ أُعْتِقَ مِنَ اَلْغَرَقِ.
The House (Ka'bah) was named al-Bayt al-Atiq (The Ancient House) because it was saved (freed) from being submerged in the flood.
