It is narrated that Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn عليه السلام and Imam Abu Ja'far (Al-Baqir) عليه السلام used to distribute their sacrificial meat in three parts: One-third was given to their neighbors. One-third was given to the needy and beggars. One-third was kept for the members of their household.
