Chapter on What Has Been Narrated Regarding Camels

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah سبحانه وتعالى be upon him and his family) was asked: "Which wealth is best?" Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم replied: "A crop that its owner sows, tends to, and gives its due when it is harvested." He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, which wealth is best after crops?" Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم replied: "A man with his sheep, following rain-fed pastures, who establishes prayer and pays zakat." He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, which wealth is best after sheep?" Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم replied: "Cattle, which bring benefit in the morning and in the evening." He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, which wealth is best after cattle?" Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم replied: "Date palms, which are steadfast in mud and provide food during drought. Indeed, palm trees are excellent. However, whoever sells them finds their price like ashes blown by a stormy wind atop a high mountain, unless he plants their replacement." He was asked: "O Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, which wealth is best after date palms?" The Prophet remained silent. A man then asked: "What about camels, O Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى?" Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم replied: "In them is hardship, roughness, and toil. They are far removed (from human company), leaving in the morning and returning in the evening. Their benefit comes only from their left side. Indeed, they are not free from the wicked and the disobedient."
