Chapter on Rare Cases of Bequests

Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Yahya narrated from Muhammad ibn Isa from Muhammad ibn Sinan from Ammar ibn Marwan from Sama'ah ibn Mehran from Abu Abdullah عليه السلام, regarding the saying of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Almighty and Glorious: "The will is for the parents and close relatives in a fair manner; it is an obligation upon the righteous" (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:180). Imam عليه السلام said: "This is something that Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Almighty and Glorious, has designated for the one who holds this matter (referring to the rightful authority)." I asked: "Is there a set limit for this?" Imam عليه السلام replied: "Yes." I asked: "What is it?" Imam عليه السلام said: "The minimum is one-third of one-third."
