Among the Concise Words of the Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him)

It is narrated from Abu Jameelah Al-Mufaddal ibn Salih, from Sa'd ibn Tarif, from Al-Asbagh ibn Nubata, from Commander of the Faithful Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib عليه السلام who said: "Jibril عليه السلام descended upon Adam عليه السلام and said: 'O' Adam, I have been commanded to offer you a choice among three things, so choose one and leave the other two.' Adam عليه السلام asked: 'What are those three things?' Jibril عليه السلام replied: 'Intellect, modesty, and religion.' Adam عليه السلام said: 'I choose intellect.' So Jibril عليه السلام said to modesty and religion: 'Depart from him.' They both replied: 'O' Jibril, we have been commanded to remain with intellect wherever it is.' Jibril عليه السلام said: 'Then it is your affair,' and he ascended."
