Merits of the Month of Ramaḍān

My father رحمه الله narrated to us, saying that Aḥmad b. Idrīs narrated to him among others, from Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Jabbār, from Ṣafwān b. Yaḥyā, from Isḥāq b. ʿAmmār, from al-Masʿamī that he heard Abā ʿAbd Allāh عليه السلام advising his children, saying thus: “When the month of Ramaḍān comes upon you, struggle with your own selves, for it is the month in which sustenances are distributed and terms (of life) are recorded, and those who visit Allāh have their visitation also recorded. And during this month is a Night wherein deeds done are fairer than those done in a thousand months.”
