Merits of the Month of Ramaḍān

Muḥammad b. Mūsā b. al-Mutawakkil narrated to us, saying that ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn al-Saʿdābādī narrated to him among others, from Aḥmad b. Abī ʿAbd Allāh al-Barqī, from his father, from Khalaf b. Ḥammād al-Ashʿarī, from Abī’l-Ḥusayn al-ʿAbdī, from al-Aʿmash, from ʿIbāya b. Ribʿī, from ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbbās, who said: “The Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وعلى آله has said: “Whoever fasts in the month of Ramaḍān, with faith in and having accounted for its reward, shall have forgiven whatever preceded him of his sins as well as whatever follows, and whoever stood (to perform supererogatory prayers) in the Night of Power, with faith in and having accounted for its reward, shall have forgiven whatever preceded him of his sins as well as whatever follows.”
