Merits of the Month of Ramaḍān

Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan b. Aḥmad b. al-Walīd رضي الله عنه narrated to us, saying that Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan al-Ṣaffār narrated to him among others, from Ibrāhīm b. Hāshim, from Muḥammad b. Abī ʿUmayr, from some of our companions, from Abī ʿAbd Allāh عليه السلام, who said: “Allāh تبارك وتعالى revealed to Mūsā عليه السلام the following: “What forbids you from engaging in quiet invocations of Me?” So Mūsā replied: “O’ Lord! I revere You too highly to engage in quiet invocation, considering the odour emanating from the fasting person’s mouth.” So, Allāh تبارك وتعالى revealed to him: “O’ Mūsā! The odour that emanates from the fasting person’s mouth is more naturally in accordance with My liking than the scent of musk!”
