Merits of the Month of Ramaḍān
Faḍāʾil al-Ashhur al-Thalātha|Volume 1|Book 3|Chapter 1
Al-Ḥusayn b. Aḥmad b. Idrīs narrated to us, saying that his father narrated to him among others, from Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Jabbār, from Ṣafwān b. Yaḥyā, from Isḥāq b. ʿAmmār, from al-Masʿamī, that he heard Abā ʿAbd Allāh عليه السلام enjoining his children thus: “When the month of Ramaḍān comes upon you, strive with your own selves, for it is the month in which sustenances are distributed and lifespans are recorded, and those who visit Allāh have their visitation also recorded, and during this month is a night wherein deeds done are better than those done in a thousand months.”
