أمْ لِلإِنسَانِ مَا تَمَنَّی

فَلِلَّهِ الْآخِرَةُ وَالْاُولَی

24. Or shall man have what he wishes?

25. But to Allah belong the Hereafter and the world.

The twain blessed Verses ask whether polytheists believe that such idols possess power and might to fulfill their wishes and answer their invocations. However, the point is that they are insignificant, essentially transient, and need the Necessary Being and the Absolutely Needless Lord for their survival. Whether polytheists seek the world or the Hereafter, they have to turn toward the Absolutely Needless Being and invoke Him for His Favors. It may be noted in passing that the Arabic word tamanna designates wish and desire be them possible or impossible, plausible or groundless.
