After raising your head from the second prostration, establish yourself on the ground, raise your hands, and say "Allahu Akbar," then stand for the second unit (rak'ah). When using your hands for support to stand, say: "With the power and strength of Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, I stand and sit." Once you stand for the second rak'ah, recite Al-Fatiha and another surah. After the recitation and before bowing, engage in the Qunoot (raising the hands in supplication). It is recommended to recite Al-Fatiha followed by Surah Al-Qadr (Inna Anzalnahu) in the first rak'ah, as it is a chapter concerning the Prophet
عليه السلام and his purified family. By this recitation, the worshiper seeks nearness to Allah
سبحانه وتعالى through them. In the second rak'ah, recite Al-Fatiha followed by Surah Al-Ikhlas (Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad) since supplication after this surah is accepted. The Qunoot is a mandatory practice in each prayer, and deliberately abandoning it invalidates the prayer, as Allah
سبحانه وتعالى, the Exalted, said: "And stand before Allah
سبحانه وتعالى in devout obedience" (Surah Al-Baqarah,
2:238), referring to standing in prayer and making supplication. The minimal acceptable Qunoot includes various forms, such as saying: "O’ Lord
عز وجل, forgive and have mercy, and overlook what You know, for You are the Mighty, the Most Generous," or saying: "Glory be to Him to Whom the heavens and the earth submit in worship." It is also sufficient to say three glorifications (tasbih). There is no issue in making supplications during Qunoot, bowing, prostration, standing, or sitting, whether for worldly or otherworldly needs, and one may mention their specific requests.
