قال محمد بن الحسن قول السائل يقولون يقرأ في الركعتين بالحمد وسورة ليس فيه صريح انهما اللتان أدركهما بل يحتمل أن يكون قال انهم يقولون يقرأ بالحمد وسورة في الركعتين اللتين فاتتاه فأمره حينئذ أن يقرأ بالحمد وحدها لان ذلك مذهب كثير من العامة وإذا احتمل ذلك لم يناف ما قدمناه من الاخبار
Muhammad ibn al-Hasan said: “The statement of the questioner, ‘They say that one recites ‘al-Hamd’ (Surah al-Fatihah) and a surah in the two rak‘ahs,’ does not explicitly state that these are the two rak‘ahs which he has caught (with the imam of prayer). Rather, it is possible that he meant to say: ‘They say that one recites ‘al-Hamd’ (Surah al-Fatihah) and a surah in the two rak‘ahs which he missed,’ so Imam عليه السلام commanded him at that point to recite ‘al-Hamd’ (Surah al-Fatihah) alone, because that is the doctrine of many of the common people. And if this is a possible interpretation, then it does not contradict the reports we previously presented.
