Who Can Lawfully Receive Zakat and Who Cannot

12. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Hassan ibn Mahbub from Mu‘awiyah ibn Wahab who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah عليه السلام, ‘They narrate from the Holy prophet, “Charity (Zakat) is not lawful for the rich people, or resourceful strong ones.’” Abu ‘Abd Allah عليه السلام, said, ‘It is not proper for the rich people.’”
