Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq عليه السلام was asked about the saying of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Exalted: "Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts; that is purer for them." (Surah An-Nur, 24:30). Imam عليه السلام said: 'Every mention of guarding the private parts in the Book of Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Exalted, refers to guarding against fornication, except in this instance, where it refers to guarding them from being looked at.'
