Chapter on Touching the Deceased
Man Lā Yaḥḍuruh al-Faqīh|Volume 1|Book 1|Chapter 25
وَ سَأَلَ اَلْحَسَنُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ أَبَا عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ: عَنِ اَلْجَرِيدَةِ اَلَّتِي تَكُونُ مَعَ اَلْمَيِّتِ فَقَالَ «تَنْفَعُ اَلْمُؤْمِنَ وَ اَلْكَافِرَ.
Al-Hasan ibn Ziyad asked Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq عليه السلام about the palm branch that is placed with the deceased. Imam عليه السلام replied: "It benefits both the believer and the disbeliever”.
