Man Lā Yaḥḍuruh al-Faqīh|Volume 4|Book 1|Chapter 12
Imam Jafar ibn Muhammad Al-Sadiq عليه السلام said: "When a man committed theft for the first time, Commander of the Faithful عليه السلام would cut off his right hand. If he repeated the theft, he would cut off his left foot. If he stole a third time, he would imprison him for life and provide for him from the public treasury."
