Merits of the Month of Ramaḍān

Jaʿfar b. ʿAlī b. al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Mughīra narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl b. Abī Ziyād, from al-Ṣādiq, Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad, from his father, from his forefathers عليهم السلام, who said: “The Messenger of Allāh صلى الله عليه وعلى آله once said to his companions: “Shall I inform you of something which, if you were to know of it, would drive Shayṭān as far away from you as the East is from the West?” They replied: “Yes!” He continued: “Fasting blackens his face, charity breaks his back, love for Allāh and supporting one another in righteous deeds cuts off his roots, and seeking forgiveness (from Allāh) severs his lifeline. And for everything, there is an alms-tax, and fasting is the alms-tax of the body.”
