أَخْبَرَنِي اَلشَّيْخُ أَيَّدَهُ اَللَّهُ عَنْ أَبِي اَلْقَاسِمِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ اَلْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اَلْجَبَّارِ وَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ اَلْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ جَمِيعاً عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ اِبْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنِ اَلْحَسَنِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ اَلصَّيْقَلِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ:« يُوضَعُ لِلْمَيِّتِ جَرِيدَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فِي اَلْيَمِينِ وَ اَلْأُخْرَى فِي اَلْيَسَارِ» قَالَ وَ قَالَ« اَلْجَرِيدَةُ تَنْفَعُ اَلْمُؤْمِنَ وَ اَلْكَافِرَ».
The Shaykh (Al-Mufid), may Allah سبحانه وتعالى support him, narrated from Abu Al-Qasim Ja‘far bin Muhammad, from Muhammad bin Ya‘qub, from Abu ‘Ali Al-Ash‘ari, from Muhammad bin ‘Abd Al-Jabbar and Muhammad bin Isma‘il, from Al-Fadl bin Shadhan, all from Safwan bin Yahya, from Ibn Muskan, from Al-Hasan bin Ziyad Al-Sayqal, from Abu ‘Abdullah عليه السلام.
Imam عليه السلام said: "A palm branch is placed with the deceased - one on the right side and the other on the left side." Imam عليه السلام also said: "The palm branch benefits both the believer and the disbeliever."
