أَخْبَرَنِي اَلشَّيْخُ أَيَّدَهُ اَللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ اَلْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ اَلنَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ اَلسَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ اَلنَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ[ صَلَّى اَللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ آلِهِ خ ل] يَقُولُ:« اِتْبَعُوا اَلْجَنَازَةَ وَ لاَ تَتْبَعُكُمْ خَالِفُوا أَهْلَ اَلْكِتَابِ».
The Shaykh (Al-Mufid), may Allah سبحانه وتعالى support him, narrated to me from Abu Ja‘far Muhammad ibn ‘Ali, from Muhammad ibn al-Hasan, from Ahmad ibn Idris, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Yahya, from al-Nawfali, from al-Sakuni, from Imam Ja’far Al Sadiq عليه السلام, from his father Imam Al Baqir عليه السلام, from his forefathers, from Imam Ali عليه السلام:
(Imam Ali عليه السلام) said: I heard the Prophet (may Allah سبحانه وتعالى bless him and his family) say: "Follow the funeral, and do not let it follow you. Oppose the ways of the People of the Book."
