أَخْبَرَنِي اَلشَّيْخُ أَيَّدَهُ اَللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ اَلْحَسَنِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ اَلْحَكَمِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ مَحْفُوظٍ اَلْإِسْكَافِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ:« إِذَا أَرَدْتَ أَنْ تَدْفِنَ اَلْمَيِّتَ فَلْيَكُنْ أَعْقَلُ مَنْ يَنْزِلُ فِي قَبْرِهِ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِ وَ لْيَكْشِفْ عَنْ خَدِّهِ اَلْأَيْمَنِ حَتَّى يُفْضِيَ بِهِ إِلَى اَلْأَرْضِ وَ يُدْنِي فَمَهُ إِلَى سَمْعِهِ وَ يَقُولُ اِسْمَعْ وَ اِفْهَمْ ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ اَللَّهُ رَبُّكَ وَ مُحَمَّدٌ نَبِيُّكَ وَ اَلْإِسْلاَمُ دِينُكَ وَ فُلاَنٌ إِمَامُكَ اِسْمَعْ وَ اِفْهَمْ وَ أَعِدْهَا عَلَيْهِ ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ هَذَا اَلتَّلْقِينُ
The Shaykh (Al-Mufid), may Allah سبحانه وتعالى support him, narrated to me from Abu Ja‘far Muhammad ibn ‘Ali, from Muhammad ibn al-Hasan, from Ahmad ibn Idris, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Yahya, from Muhammad ibn Isma‘il, from ‘Ali ibn al-Hakam, from Muhammad ibn Sinan, from Mahfuz al-Iskafi, from Abu ‘Abdullah عليه السلام:
Imam عليه السلام said: "When you intend to bury the deceased, the most understanding person should descend into the grave near his head. He should uncover the deceased's right cheek so that it touches the earth. Then, he should bring his mouth close to the deceased’s ear and say: 'Listen and understand' - three times - 'Allah سبحانه وتعالى is your Lord, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم is your Prophet, Islam is your religion, and [mention the names of Imams عليه السلام] are your Imam عليه السلام. Listen and understand.' Then he should repeat it three times. This is the Talqin (instruction)."
