Tahdhīb al-Aḥkām|Volume 1|Book 1|Chapter 20
Al-Husayn, from Al-Hasan, from Zur’ah, from Sama’ah, who said:
I asked Abu Abdullah عليه السلام about a man who has water with him while traveling but fears that it may not be enough. Imam عليه السلام said: "He should perform tayammum (dry ablution) with the earth and preserve the water, for Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Mighty and Majestic, has made both water and earth purifiers."
