Chapter on Instructing the Dying (Talqin al-Muhtadarin)

Sa'd narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from 'Uthman ibn 'Isa, from Sama'ah, who said: I asked Abu 'Abdillah عليه السلام, about a man who dies and there are only women present. Imam عليه السلام said: "A woman who is a mahram (close relative) to him should wash him, and the other women should pour water over her, and she should not remove his clothes. And if it is a woman who dies among men and there is no woman or mahram for her, she should be buried as she is, in her clothes. However, if there is a mahram present for her, he should wash her from above her clothes."
