Tahdhīb al-Aḥkām|Volume 1|Book 1|Chapter 4
from Muhammad ibn Yaʿqub, from Ali ibn Ibrahim, from his father, from Ibn Abi ʿUmayr, from ʿUmar ibn Udhaynah, from Zurarah and Bukayr:
They both asked Abu Jaʿfar عليه السلام about the ablution (Wuduʾ) of the Messenger of Allah سبحانه وتعالى (peace and blessings be upon him and his family). Imam عليه السلام then requested a basin and narrated the description of ablution until he said: We had asked: "May Allah سبحانه وتعالى rectify your affairs, is one handful of water sufficient for the face, and one handful for the arm?" Imam عليه السلام replied: "Yes, if you use it thoroughly. Two handfuls are sufficient for all of it."
