Chapter on Rules of Janabah and Methods of Purification

مَا رَوَاهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الصَّفَّارُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ نُوحِ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ حَرِيزٍ أَوْ عَمَّنْ رَوَاهُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ: إِنَّ أَهْلَ الْكُوفَةِ يَرْوُونَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْوُضُوءِ قَبْلَ الْغُسْلِ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ. قَالَ: كَذَبُوا عَلَى عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، مَا وَجَدُوا ذَلِكَ فِي كِتَابِ عَلِيٍّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ. قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: وَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ جُنُبًا فَاطَّهَّرُوا، وَيَدُلُّ أَيْضًا عَلَيْهِ.
Narrated by Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Saffar, from Ibrahim ibn Hisham, from Nuh ibn Shu'ayb, from Hariz or someone who narrated it from Muhammad ibn Muslim, who said:
I said to Abu Ja'far عليه السلام: "The people of Kufa narrate from (Imam) Ali عليه السلام that he used to order wudu before performing ghusl for janabah." Imam عليه السلام said: "They have lied about (Imam) Ali عليه السلام. They did not find that in the book of (Imam) Ali عليه السلام. For Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Exalted, says: 'And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves' (Surah Al-Ma'idah 5:6)." This also supports the ruling.
