Chapter on the Rules of Menstruation, Istihadah, and Nifas, and Purification From Them

Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa narrated from Safwan, from Ayyas ibn Al-Qasim, who said: I asked Abu Abdullah عليه السلام about a man who had intercourse with his wife while she was menstruating. Imam عليه السلام عليه السلام said: "He should not seek to do such an act, for Allah سبحانه وتعالى has forbidden approaching her in this state." I said: "If he does it, is there any expiation upon him?" Imam عليه السلام replied: "I am not aware of anything obligatory in this regard; he should seek forgiveness from Allah سبحانه وتعالى, the Exalted."
