Chapter on the Rules of Menstruation, Istihadah, and Nifas, and Purification From Them
The Shaykh (Al-Mufid), may Allah سبحانه وتعالى support him, narrated to me from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from his father, from Al-Husayn ibn Al-Hasan ibn Aban, from Al-Husayn ibn Sa’id, from Al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, from Abu Sa’id, who said:
I asked Abu Ibrahim عليه السلام: "Can a man dye himself while in a state of janaba?" Imam عليه السلام replied: "No." I asked: "What if he becomes junub while already dyed?" Imam عليه السلام replied: "No." Then Imam عليه السلام remained silent for a moment and said: "O Abu Sa’id, shall I guide you to something you can do?" I said: "Indeed." Imam عليه السلام said: "When you dye yourself with henna, and the henna has fully set and taken effect, then at that point you may have intercourse."
