Muhammad ibn Ya‘qub, from Ali ibn Muhammad, from Abdullah ibn Ishaq al-‘Alawi, from al-Hasan ibn Ali, from Muhammad ibn Sulayman al-Daylami, from ‘Aytham ibn Aslam al-Najashi, from Abu Basir who said: I asked Abu Abdillah عليه السلام about praying in fur garments. Imam عليه السلام said: "(Imam) Ali ibn al-Husayn عليه السلام was a man sensitive to cold, and the furs of the Hijaz would not keep him warm because their tanning was done with qaraz (a plant extract). So He عليه السلام would send to Iraq and He عليه السلام would be brought fur from your region, and He عليه السلام would wear it. But when the time for prayer arrived, He عليه السلام would take it off, and also take off the shirt that was in contact with it. He عليه السلام was asked about that, and He (Imam Husayn عليه السلام) said: 'Indeed, the people of Iraq deem it permissible to wear the skins of dead animals, and they claim that tanning it is its purification (that tanning makes it lawful).’"
