Chapter on What is Permissible to Pray in, from Clothing and Place, and What is Not Permissible to Pray in, from That
And from him, from Fadalah, from Hammad al-Nab, from al-Hakam ibn al-Hakam, who said:
I heard Abu Abdillah عليه السلام being asked about prayer in churches (biya’) and synagogues (kanaʾis). Imam عليه السلام said: "Pray in them, I have seen how clean they are!" I asked: "Is it permissible to pray in them even though they (non-Muslims) pray in them?" Imam عليه السلام said: "Yes. Do you not read the Qur’an: 'Say, each works according to his own way, but your Lord عز وجل is most knowing of who is best guided in path'? (Surah Isra 17:84) Pray facing the Qiblah, and let them go their way."
