Chapter on the Merit of Prayer, and What is Obligatory and Recommended from It
Hammad from Hariz from Zurarah, who said:
I asked Abu Ja‘far عليه السلام about what is obligatory (fardh) in the prayer. Imam عليه السلام said: “The time, purification, the qiblah, facing the direction (of Qibla), bowing, prostration, and supplication.” I asked: “And what about everything else besides that?” Imam عليه السلام said: “It is Sunnah within the obligatory (prayer).”
